At the Night of Reading, several students of the Advanced Creative Writing Class shared and read short stories, poems and excerpts of texts they have been working on throughout the academic year. A small reception ensued the reading, and we were delighted that quite a few language enthusiasts have joined us to celebrate words and writing, and to enjoy the young authors’ affinity for English as well as their creativity.

Immortal, Leonie Haag, G3
I want to be immortal.
Not with a heart to beat
Not with a body to move
But with the stories I have told
I want to be immortal.
Like William Shakespeare and Jane Austen
Like their names that still twist between people’s tongues
And their souls still dancing in black ink
I want to be immortal.
My books turned into movies
My poems analysed at school
Having my remains collected in a bookshelf
I want to be immortal.
So, I can peacefully die
Goodbyes, Carole Meier, G4
Four years seemed like plenty of time
but suddenly, in the blink of an eye,
fourteen hundred days passed by
and it's time for us to say goodbye
Goodbyes to the early days
of awkwardly sitting in class,
learning more about community
than all the subjects I had
Goodbyes to the weekdays
we’d turn to late nights,
learning more about friendship
than acids or ampholytes
Goodbyes to the rare days
my mind was a mess,
learning more about strength
than a test could assess
Goodbyes to the holidays
I spent making art,
learning more about passion
than school can impart
Goodbyes to the everydays
that felt like home,
learning more about life
than I knew was unknown
And goodbyes to the many ways
I used to think and used to be,
having learnt and outgrown
that version of me
